Finding a Partner in Care in the Heart of Central New York
When a loved one is living with dementia, your first priority is finding a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for them. It’s a search guided by love, leading you to look for a place that will not only provide expert assistance but will also honor your family member’s individuality and life story. You’re looking for a partner who understands.
At Peregrine Senior Living at Onondaga Hill, we understand.
We are here to provide the answers, guidance, and exceptional care your loved one deserves, helping you navigate this new chapter with confidence and peace of mind.

Is Dementia Carethe Same as Memory Care?
Yes, you have found the right place. In the senior living industry, the comprehensive, specialized support you are looking for is called memory care.
While families often search for “dementia care” because it relates directly to a diagnosis, “memory care” is the name we use for our dedicated neighborhoods, our evidence-based programs, and our specially trained teams that provide this exact support.
What isDementia Care?
“Dementia care” is a term families often use when searching for support for a loved one experiencing cognitive challenges.
It refers to a specialized approach to care that is thoughtfully designed to meet the unique needs of individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia.
A Secure & Nurturing Environment
A safe, structured setting — purposefully designed for those living with dementia — that minimizes confusion and prevents wandering, while also providing access to spacious common areas and enclosed courtyards.
Person-Centered Support
A deep commitment to honoring each resident’s personal history, preferences, and remaining abilities.
Purposeful Engagement
Providing daily opportunities for social connection, joy, and a sense of accomplishment, which helps to reduce anxiety and agitation.
Specially Trained Staff
A team that has the expertise and compassion to manage the unique challenges of memory loss with patience and respect.
Our Approach: The Peregrine Way®
At Peregrine Onondaga Hill, our entire approach to dementia care is embodied in The Peregrine Way®. This is more than just a program; it’s a philosophy that sets us apart. We believe that a fulfilling life is always possible.
Our mission is to help residents maintain a strong connection to themselves, their families, and their past, focusing on what makes them unique rather than what they may have lost.
We do this by focusing on long-term memories, which often remain vibrant. Our programs are designed to tap into these cherished memories to spark joy, build self-esteem, and create a sense of purpose.
Specialized Support for Early-Stage Memory Loss
We understand that this initial phase requires a unique balance of independence and support.
Our environment is designed to help your loved one stay connected to who they are, fostering their independence while providing a structured, supportive setting where they can continue to live an active and fulfilling life.
Enriching Life Through Connection & Purpose
The Peregrine Way® comes to life through our signature programs, which are designed to stimulate the mind and spirit:
- Peregrine University: We foster lifelong learning by partnering with local colleges and organizations. This program provides residents with engaging, familiar lectures on topics like world history, civil rights, and American presidents, creating a sense of connection to the world.
- Legacy Stories: We capture each resident’s unique life story in a beautiful biography. Written by students, writers, and volunteers, these stories are used to provide comfort and are a powerful tool for connecting residents with their most cherished memories.
- Celebrate a Resident: Every month, our community comes together to honor one of our residents. We read their biography and invite family members to share stories, celebrating their unique journey and contributions.
- Around the World Dining: Our culinary team creates monthly themed dining experiences with cultural dishes, music, and demonstrations. This program is a joyful way to stimulate long-term memories and spark new conversations.
Services & Amenities Designed for Well-Being
Your loved one will have access to a wide range of services and amenities designed for comfort, safety, and engagement:
- Spiritual Wellness: Our community features a beautiful, non-denominational chapel and a Spiritual Care Coordinator to support our residents’ spiritual needs.
- 24/7 On-Site Support: Our skilled staff is always available to provide personalized care and assistance with daily living, such as bathing, grooming, and medication management.
- Family-Friendly Dining: We believe meals are a time for connection. Family members are always welcome to dine with their loved ones in our beautiful dining room at no extra cost.
- A Full Calendar of Events: Beyond our signature programs, residents enjoy a rich social life with a gardening club, on-site movie screenings, fitness workshops, and regular excursions.

Our Testimonials
Peregrine has been a blessing for our family. We moved our mom into Peregrine Senior Living on Onondaga Hill when mom was 100 years old and diagnosed with dementia. We realized she was not safe to be left alone and searched for the right place for her to live. Mom is now 102 years old and has lived at Peregrine for almost two years. The staff and administration are welcoming, caring, and competent; they truly love our mom. She is so well cared for in every way. The staff always goes above and beyond to make sure mom feels safe and comfortable. The activities available for residents are engaging and delightful, from music presentations to bingo, games, bowling, crafts baking, and weekly Friday happy hours. Special occasions, holidays and birthdays are celebrated for mom and all the residents. Mom has resident friends who she eats meals with, and the food is appealing and and delicious. Mom receives her medications appropriately, and is checked on often. Her room is clean and lovely, with a large bathroom that is easily accessible to mom with her walker. The staff help her with showers, toileting, and activities of daily living. I highly recommend Peregrine for your loved one who is diagnosed with memory loss and dementia.
